The Kornel Makuszyński Museum

Kornel Makuszyński Museum is the second biographic-literary museum in Zakopane, after Kasprowicz's Harenda. It's located in villa "Opolanka", where Makuszyńscy family stationed during nearly annual summer and winter stayings in Zakopane. After the World War II they settled there for good. Lots of precious items and the whole, wide library of Makuszyński family was destroyed during World War II in Warsaw.

What's left of Makuszyński, great collectioner of literary works and friend to many other artists, is merely a tiny bit of his vast assortment. Museum was created in 1966 from collections donated by Janina Gluzińska-Makuszyńska (1896-1972), widow of the writer.

Museum in Opolanka consists of four rooms of former house of Makuszyński family. The collection includes the library composed of following editions of writer's works, historical-literary writings about his books and memoir literature. This archive is not only about Makuszyński's manuscripts, but also letters from prominent writers, painters, musicians, theatre people, scolars, politicians and a large corespondence from readers. Archive is complemented by newspaper clippings and photo collection.

As for art collection, the works consists of paintings and sculptures made by famous artists (i.a. paintings by Julian Fałat, Włodzimierz Jarocki, Fryderyk Pautsch, Kazimierz Sichulski, Władysław Skoczylas, Stanisław Wyspiański, sculptures by Konstanty Laszczka and Henryk Kuna), ilustration projects for books by Makuszyński, antique furniture mostly in biedermaier style, miniatures, old artistic fabric (eastern carpet, pershian prayer, japanese screen), many works of old-time applied arts like lamps, clocks, polish and french glass, chinese, english, saxon and meisen porcelain.
