The first Gąsniców Run was held in 1976, which means that its history is just as long as the famous the Piast Race in Jakuszyce. The initiator of this ski event was the famous editor of the Dziennik Polski, Mr. Wojciech Jarzębowski. The inaugural competition was organized to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the existence of Zakopane. On the cross-country trails in the immediate vicinity of Wielka Krokiew, there were such famous ski jumpers as Józef Łuszczek or the Olympic from Cortina d'Ampezzo in 1956 - Stanisław Bukowski. For over 40 years, this race enjoyed variable popularity, there were years in which the organizers lost with capricious weather and were forced to cancel the race. In 2018, the 34th edition of the Gąsienica Run in Zakopane took place.
